There are many great attractions within a 1-2 hour journey outside of Melbourne. If you have some time before or after the Conference, you should definitely venture out of the city.

Phillip Island: Penguins, Koalas and Kangaroos Day Tour

Observe some of Australia’s most popular native wildlife on this day trip from Melbourne to Phillip Island that includes a stop at Maru Koala and Animal Park. Interact with koalas and kangaroos before arriving at Phillip Island, home to sea birds, fur seals and, most famously, fairy penguins, aka little penguins.

You’ll visit the Nobbies to look for seals on the rocky coastline while you wait for sunset, when the little penguins perform the Penguin Parade, their nightly ritual of waddling out of the water and along the beach to their burrows. Melbourne Zoo

The Royal Melbourne Zoological Gardens, commonly known as the Melbourne Zoo, contains more than 320 animal species from Australia and around the world. The zoo is 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) north of the centre of Melbourne. It is accessible via Royal Park station on the Upfield railway line, and is also accessible via tram routes 55 and 19, as well as by bicycle on the Capital City Trail. Bicycles are not allowed inside the zoo itself.
